Current work
Chloe Phelps is an artist working predominantly with textiles and basketry. Interested in the therapeutic and essential nature of making, Chloe’s work explores colour, material, intuition and our connection to the world around us through traditional and folk techniques. Using natural, foraged and repurposed materials Chloe makes sculptural baskets using a range of techniques. Being led by the material itself, Chloe’s work often explores our connection to materials and the stories they hold, as well as promoting slow, ancient crafts.
This selection of work is the beginning of a project exploring found materials, natural dyes and repurposed fabrics. Exploring soft, bellied forms with highly textured, sometimes hairy materials, these works explore our connection to materials and the meaning we can add to them through slow, thoughtful processes.
